This is a very good article. As a songwriter I think
I am half desire for personal expression and half wanting to communicate. I am kind of a shy person and songwriting is a way to share my feelings and thoughts. I wish that every song that I write would be a hit song but at the same time I realize that every song writer has great songs as well as bad ones. I also believe for that one song that will really impact the world. George F. Handel did not write very many great songs but when he got the inspiration to write "The Messiah" which took almost a month to compose, it became the greatest work of music for all time.

What is truly going on here? Is someone being overtaken by greed? "Warriors for Life" we shall fight until the enemy is stripped from all it's power! We songwriter's and Publisher's are the backbone if this entire business. Without us there wouldn't be any business! Let's find/out what exactly we're up against, the nature of this beast, it's origion, it's intents and tactics for what they are up too... We need Warriors and bravery, commitment and true stewardship, if we are going to defeat this monster. We can do it if we remain united! And United we are!!! We Music Warriors refuse too lick our wounds, we will fight with smart planning, an excellent "Plan of Action" we will get to the bottom of this. Yes, we shall prevail!
It's time to put on our Armor of courage, confidence, and determination. I truly believe we will succeed... Enlist me, I am in, reporting for duty Sir!!! Mr. Eleazar M. Soto Sr., Songwriter/Composer. Inspirational Terrain/Apocalypse/The Redeemed.

I thought love is makes the world go around, I wrote a song called Will You Be My Valentine, it is about a man proposing to the woman he loves and wants to marry. Tis beautiful a waltz, what could be more romantic than that? Doris

Hi Eric! I agree, the best idea is to start our own business. That is what I am doing here in Ecuador. We own a recording studio and here we produce local artists. That has worked very good for us. We also write music for publicity (jingles), but sometimes it gets a little hard for us, since we are young and we are a new company...
Any ways, we have new ideas for the business and we hope everything works!
Take care!

well you just painted the picture that i am living out right now. at the top of the year i teamed up with a business partner, and we have set out to experiment with new ideas in the music industry.

from the previous experience we both have had so far in music, we saw a need to move in a specific direction. both of us have had friends in the music industry working for the big companies, but constantly heard them complain about the shortcomings of their jobs. many of them have become victims of the constant downsizing. one of the clearest descriptions of the instability of the music industry is that of justin goldberg in his book "the ultimate survival guide to the new music industry: handbook for hell"

you must be an innovative adapter and opportunity seeker in today's music world. keep an open mind, and focus on longevity.

awesome post. thanks for the thoughts/inspiration. btw-don't hesitate to send your flood of resumes my way. we are looking for some help.

I enjoyed reading your article. I'm in Nashville and have worked in the music industry. While I have transitioned on, I still keep my feet wet in it. I have found the same to be true with the new graduates over here. You're right, it's a bit paradoxical. Now is the time for creativity, new business models and pure passion behind ideas. Thanks for your words!!

Great post Eric!

You are 100% correct. There are so many exciting jobs available in music today. You just have to look at your search differently. Tons of small companies needing talent and energy to help propel their model forward.

Eric-

I just recently came across your blog. I have read a couple of posts, and am very inspired by your approach to the music business. I am a producer/engineer/manager in Nashville.

I feel we share a common approach. I, as you, feel that people and the community is what matters most when it comes to the music business. I have written a couple of blog posts myself on this topic.

Thanks for the inspiration!
